Profile

Anselm Homey`s works show abstract structures of nature and urban
environments, inviting us to follow him into a subconscious world full of mystical
places that might evoke overwhelming impressions and emotions.

He is a self-taught artist who - inspired by great artists such as Gerhard Richter
and Claude Monet – has chosen abstract painting as a form of expression for
himself, his needs, longings, and his view of the world as we perhaps also see it
or a world that we do not really perceive but feel deeply.

His abstract works on spacious canvas, wood and paper are not only a way of
expressing his creativity and passion as an interior designer, but they also
reflect his perception of experiences and thoughts. Through them he tries to
look behind the often colorful and sensory-flooded surfaces of life.

So, what characterises Anselm Homey`s paintings? A recurring motif is water
reflections or axes of reflections, which divide the works not only horizontally,
but often also vertically into the visible and the subconscious worlds. The
abstract axis of reflection of the water allows the viewer a deeper insight into
his/her subconscious and encourages to reflect on his/her own needs and
desires.

The technique often chosen by Anselm Homey is a combination of oil and
acrylic painting. In a fascinating way, the viewer can guess how the colours and
shapes are built up and how the many layers with brush, spatula and squeegee
create the stunning reflection effects. The artwork shows simplicity and
complexity at the same time.

The one-line drawings, on the other hand, show a more playful side. Anselm
Homey here uses as a surface handmade paper and black ink to draw with a
single line fine little works of art – without the pen ever leaving the paper. The
resulting outline drawing is then coloured with watercolour pencil, which gives it
often a dreamy and romantic touch.

Anselm Homey`s works can be found internationally in private collections, e.g.,
in Germany, Spain, Italy, Croatia, Mexico and the USA. Numerous and regular
solo and group exhibitions in museums, public buildings, privately organised
exhibitions and galleries have been part of the artist`s permanent repertoire for
many years.

The artist lives and works in Braunschweig/Wolfsburg in Germany and
occasionally in Barcelona, Spain.
