A single plant grows upward from the seabed, its leaves swaying as if moved by a slow current. Rust-colored buds open along the stem, one of them marked with a bright spark of red.
Acrylic in sage green, slate blue and rust is pressed onto deckle-edged cotton paper and outlined with fine, flowing ink lines. A dark stroke of oil pastel forms the stem, copper acrylic glints on the buds, and soft watercolor washes give the leaves their transparency. A small touch of yellow at the base hints at light reaching the ground.
The fourteenth work in the “Ocean” series is a quiet botanical study: seaweed, kelp or a dream of both.
